thru September 29 - UNC Asheville's Blowers Gallery Hosts Exhibition by Asheville Artist Arrington Williams - A collection of abstract paintings by Asheville artist Arrington Williams will be on view through September 29 in UNC Asheville's Blowers Gallery. The exhibition includes works in oil and acrylics by Williams, a graduate of the Corcoran School of Art who now has a studio in the River Arts District. An opening reception will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, in the gallery. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. September 8 thru October 6 - Bird Watching 101 - Learn how to identify the birds of western North Carolina and have fun doing it. Over the course of five, 1-hour programs, bird expert Jamie Cameron will lead discussions on choosing binoculars, field guides and other birding equipment, as well as the easy steps to identifying birds, birds of the Black Mountain area throughout the season and suggestions on how to make your backyard a bird sanctuary. The last session will be a guided bird hike with Jamie, scheduled to coincide with peak fall migration.
